TESLA SHOWROOM
Location: Santa Monica, CA
Critic: Eric Schoenenberger
// Serving as a concept dealership for American electric vehicle designer and manufacturer, Tesla Motors, this building includes educational exhibits, showroom, customization interfaces, sales floor, service bays, charging stations, café, and an exit ramp through the building for buyers to drive away their new Tesla. The directionality of the design language was able to be adapted for use in the capturing of views of the Santa Monica beach, pier, and cliffs, while also allowing natural direct or indirect light into the spaces. Working in a team of three, this comprehensive project was designed through generative computation, but also included all steps of design development, including site strategy, program research, life safety, materiality investigation, structural and mechanical systems, and detailing. The result was a 35 page construction document set that actualizes the inventive nature of the architecture.
